Dear List,
This is Jospeh. I have posted about various file system abtou a few months
ago. Some words on file systems follow.
There are many file systems that are availible today. Whether the file
system you choose depends on whether the operating system could handle it.
For example, in Windows XP, NTFS (New Technology File System) is supported
in addition to FAT (File Allocation Table). But, in Windows 98, for example,
it does not support NTFS. Same goes to Windows CE. Windows CE supported only
FAT file system (both FAT and FAT32). Although if HW introduces support for
NTFS, this would cause compatibility problems simply because "Windows CE
does not support NTFS." FAT is supported by virtually all devices these
days. If you change the file system on a card, for example, to NTFS,
BrailleNote (More specifically, Windows CE) cannot use it. It'll offer you
to format the card using FAT32 (Although FAT32 is more reliable, it uses
tones of space.). If you have any comments, feel free to post it to the
list.
