With my data plan from Cingular, I also do have the ability to
switch to a slower connection that does just use my air time
minutes. And, although I often just use this slower connection
on the phone itself and read my email on the phone, I can use a
Bluetooth connection and have the phone call the regular dial-up
number for my ISP.

Hi KC,
Don't worry about being Daffy, your questions are good ones.

Yes, the data plan is an additional $20 per month, above the
standard charges for air time and making calls. However, when
using the phone with the BN, it's not actually making a phone
call, it's using the data service. My old cell phone that did
not have bluetooth would make an actual call to Earthlink, just
like the modem that is built in to the BN. It works differently
now with the bluetooth connection. If you're not planning on
making a lot of calls, (and I would think you wouldn't, but I
don't want to assume, we all know what happens when people do
that), You could probably get a nice cheap plan with a small
amount of air time, and that could make it easier to afford the
data plan.
BTW, if anyone feels this to be off-topic, please say so, I only
keep it on list because it relates to connecting to the internet
with the BN.
