Hello Everyone:
I'm wondering if others have experienced this problem with battery
recalibration on t he mPower:
I had been using my mPower for several months in braille only mode when I
received the message that the battery gauge was not accurate and I needed
to recalibrate the battery.
So I started the battery recalibration process by giving the G command.
After the battery was charged and the discharge cycle begain, I suddenly
realized that I had forgotten to turn on speech, so I turned it on. I
wasn't sure whether I should have done that, so I called BN Tech Support
who said to let the battery recalibration continue rather than abort it in
the middle and see what happened. The battery recalibration aborted
several hours later in the discharge cycle. When I looked at the battery
gauge, it said it was inaccurate and needed to be recalibrated. I started
the recalibration process again withthe G command. The battery took four
hours to charge fuly, seven hours to discharge, four hours to recharge
(for a total of 15 hours). when I looked again, it had started on the
second discharge (it didn't stop after the second recharge which it should
have). I called BN Tech support who said the recalibration was in an
infinite loop. they advised me to abort the recalibration and send my
mPower back to have the battery replaced. (When I stopped the
recalibration process, the battery gauge still said it was inaccurate and
needed to be recalibrated.) Tech Support insisted that the problem had
nothing to do with my turning on the speech during the first recalibration
and said there were machines out there that had this same problem withthe
battery recalibration and the only way to fix it was to replace the
battery. I ahve since sent my mPower back.
However, I'm wondering if this is a software or hardware problem. I'm a
bit skeptical that replacing the battery is going to fix the problem -- I
can't imagine it being due to the battery.
Has anyone on this list had this problem wwiththe battery recalibration
and if so, what was done to fix the problem?
thanks,
Barbara Wagreich
