Hi all,

This message is for mainly the Humanware staff, but I have placed it
here in the hope that others who have my same problem may benefit.

Let me start by saying that I have recently acquired a domain. This
is wonderful and marvelous, and I really like it. The problem is that
when you do this, sometimes it takes some finnagling to configure your
email client so it is working properly.

The standard way to configure something like this is to get your
email from your domain, that is unless you're running your own mail
server, with a pop3 account. Many ISP's are requiring authentication
these days, and the BrailleNote has provisions for this. At least it
has provisions for people who connect and send through the same ISP.
In my case, I get my email from portaltutoring.info, which is hosted
by Domainmasters. They require authentication, but only if you send
out through their SMTP servers. What one is supposed to do if one is
courteous, is to use your ISP's SMTP server for your outgoing mail. I
am now with Frontier DSL. They require authentication. Problem is
that my name and password on Frontier are different from my name and
password on portaltutoring.info. Outlook has provisions for this in
its property sheet in the accounts dialog. The BrailleNote doesn't
have this capability. You may want to consider adding this provision
in a later version of the connectivity menu. More and more ISP's are
doing this authentication gumbus, and you're gonna have trouble with
folks like me who have domains hosted by different people than their
ISP. Right now, I'm using both pop and SMTP from my domain because I
can't do anything else. It's working, but I can't send out through
Frontier, which is what I really *should* be doing. Just an FYI for
future reference.

If this is all too technical, folks, I'm sorry, but I wanted you, and
especially the Humanware staff to know what I've just been dealing
with here.
