Rhonda,

I thought you must be able to if others are doing it.

Lisa,

When you rename your file, if you use the Rename function from the Files Menu, you will need to put in the extension and you will be asked if you're sure you want to change the extension.

If this doesn't work for you, you may want to check the size of the download to ensure you've got it all successfully and get someone who has used it successfully to confirm it.

Let us know how you go.

Generally, when you are putting a file in the utilities part of the unit, you can't open it with the Book Share utility. However, if you have a pc, since it's not working, you may try opening it. Generally, Carol, you can rename these when it's a download that will run through utilities.

Lisa,

I haven't used the unzip (unpack) utility that comes with
Bookshare on my BN
more than about once because I'm not a US citizen, but I would
have thought
that is what you need to do to unpack the .exe within the .zip
file first.
You can't just rename it.

Subject: [Braillenote] still unable to run hidden security patch

Hi
Okay the hidden security dialogs patch for KS still will not
run. Here
are the steps I am taking.

1. I go to Humanware's home page.
2. I link on the ^. downloads.

3. I link on the words Braillenote downloads.

4. I go to the section that talks about the hidden security
patch. I
download where the link says to download it.

6. The file downloads with the extension zip.

7. I go to the file manager menu where I locate the file. The
file still
has the zip extension.

8. I rename the file with the exe extension. Unfortunately the
file
will not allow me to rename just the extension. I rename the
file exactly
the way it is written hiddensecuritydialogs in uncontracted
Braille. I
add the dots 4-6 for the period and the letters exe.

9. I go to the utilities menu. There I press a to run the
application.
The BN asks which directory and the file is found. The file has
the exe
extension.

10. The BN says not valid WIN 32 application.

Any ideas? I don't mind redownloading the file and deleting it
several
times daily. Something this simple shouldn't be this difficult.

Thanks for your help and your time.

Lisa
