Hi KC, an audio CD and a CD ROM are absolutely the same physically. The
difference is in the way that they are formatted. An audio CD can be
played in any CD player, a CD Rom can only be used on a computer. The
audio CD you are talking about is one of two CDs that ships with every
BrailleNote. It used to be a cassette, now it's a CD. The issue is not at
all a financial one for HumanWare, it is a customer focus issue. Not all
BrailleNote users have access to a computer. If we made the audio CD a CD
ROM, then non-PC users would not be able to access the audio material at
all. The approach we are taking now means that Deaf Blind people and those
who prefer text have complete access in hardcopy Braille, on the other CD
which ships with the unit which is indeed a CD ROM, and on board the unit
itself. We even ship it in print, in case someone needs sighted
assistance, so we've covered all bases. I don't see that anyone is being
disadvantaged here, since the way things are at present, everyone, whether
they have a computer or not, whether they are Deaf Blind or not, has
completely equal access to the same information. It's a physical
impossibility for us to do all this on one CD.

RE: [Braillenote] Tutorial

Jonathan
No doubt, You will consider me stupid However, I don't know the
difference between a CD-Rom disk and a CD disk. IN fact, I
doubt many who are deaf-blind know either!

More to the point, why did the CD, which consumers received
inthe boxes with their M-Power Transplant or new M-Power, not
indicate "audio?"

Finally, can you truthfully say that using a CD-Rom Disk as
oppsed to the CD disk you are now using, would create a
financial hardship for HW? If not, I don't see the
justification for your reluctance to include both audio and
text.
