There would be no need for putting anything else in any folder. The manual, including the first chapter, is there, on the unit, and if you know enough to open the file in the general folder, you know how to do it in the manual folder. The Braille copy, and/or the audio CD give you enough to get you started, so you can access the rest of the information. It is already on the BN, in the manual. It is also in Braille. As has been stated, and stated, and restated. Humanware has, in my opinion, done everything possible to make that first, crucial chapter available, no matter how you choose to access it. The messaage from Jonathan, describing the new upgrade, and posted on the website was neither a training tool, nor a tutorial. It was an advertisement, pure and simple. He has already said that Humanware will refrain from such practice in the future, which is sad from my point of view, because it was entertaining. However, I have to say that I listened to it in the hopes of learning something other than what was written to us all on this very list. In that, I was disappointed. Everything in the advert was also in the announcement to the list.

If you want something else, I suggest you state, as plainly as possible, what is missing, but please consider if it might already be available.

I have to agree with Richard here. I certainly use cf cards
now, but
before the BN, I had never even heard of them. I also think
that, depending
on where HW gets their cf cards, sending a cf card with every BN
might be
expensive. Might it be possible to write whatever information it
is that is
needed in a file in the general folder?

Precisely. If you are truly new to the Braille Note, chances are
you
may never have seen a CF card, and you certainly wouldn't know
how to
insert one and find files on it.

Hi Terry, this would not be a good idea because new customers
wanting to

hear the getting started tutorial may not know how to use data on
a CF
or
SD card.

I prefer CF or SD cards because CDs are quite fragile. Why can't
the
material be put on a CF or SD card instead of a CD?

: Hi KC, an audio CD and a CD ROM are absolutely the same
physically.
The
: difference is in the way that they are formatted. An audio CD
can be
: played in any CD player, a CD Rom can only be used on a
computer. The
: audio CD you are talking about is one of two CDs that ships
with every
: BrailleNote. It used to be a cassette, now it's a CD. The issue
is not

at
: all a financial one for HumanWare, it is a customer focus
issue. Not
all
: BrailleNote users have access to a computer. If we made the
audio CD a

CD
: ROM, then non-PC users would not be able to access the audio
material
at
: all. The approach we are taking now means that Deaf Blind
people and
those
: who prefer text have complete access in hardcopy Braille, on
the other

CD
: which ships with the unit which is indeed a CD ROM, and on
board the
unit
: itself. We even ship it in print, in case someone needs sighted
: assistance, so we've covered all bases. I don't see that anyone
is
being
: disadvantaged here, since the way things are at present,
everyone,
whether
: they have a computer or not, whether they are Deaf Blind or
not, has
: completely equal access to the same information. It's a
physical
: impossibility for us to do all this on one CD.

the

: doubt many who are deaf-blind know either!
:
: More to the point, why did the CD, which consumers
received
: inthe boxes with their M-Power Transplant or new M-Power,
not
: indicate "audio?"
:
: Finally, can you truthfully say that using a CD-Rom Disk as

: justification for your reluctance to include both audio and
