Hello, Drewh:

I am believing your subject line, though it is the original.
From what your subject line reads, you have a BrailleNote QT.

From Main Menu, press Function with O. Press Read with I. Press
X.

How do you go about exercising the Braille display on the BN?
Thanks

Hi Don,

Well, I had exercised the display, but not upside down. I'll
try that.
When my unit went in, it was cleaned, and when it returned, the
problems
till came back intermittently. It cannot hurt to try this just
for
experimentation! Thanks.

Les

Hi Les,

When you get a transplant, the braille cells from your original
unit are
put
into the MPower case. So what you end up with is a new MPower
with your
original display.

I had a problem with missing dots recentlly and although it
sounds weird,
I
went into support mode and hit x to exercise the display and
then turned
the
entire unit upside down so the braille cells were facing
downward and let
it
exercise for maybe 1 or two minutes and then stopped. Previous
to that I
had simply exercised the display for a few minutes but the
problem came
back. However, after exercising it with the unit upside down,
the problem
has not returned.

The only thing I can figure is that whatever was obstructing the
dots was
pushed out by the dots pushing out the foreign material
apparently
permanently.
Worth a try!

Don

Hi Kc,

Actually, I thought the cells were the same as the unit was
transplanted.
Now, I do lose dots randomly, but they usually either pop back
on their
own,
or I press the area of the display parallel to the missing dot
and it
often
returns. They are not missing permanently, but I have had
intermittnet
problems since the transplant was done. While better, it still
does
occur.
I use the advance thumb key a lot, and I do hear a click that
doesn't
sound
normal sometimes, and I then notice a dot missing in a cell. In
my case,
the pins were replaced, and at one point, one cell was replaced,
but the
same cell would lose a dot, so in my case, I don't think it's
the actual
cell itself that is causing the intermittent problem.

Subject: [Braillenote] Braille cells on the M-Power QT Display

Hello everyone, this is KC Spear.

As some of you know, when using my BN M-Power, I rely entirely
on braille.
I
know some of you use both braille and speech.
Logically, you don't use your braille display for reading and
editing as
much as I do.
My point is that, with the BN Classic, I only had to ask for
1-cell
replacemnt. That was done in 2005, when I sent the BN in
for a "Transplant." I'm going to need to send the M-Power
back, because several cells are missing dots. Has anyone else
experienced
a
problem with the M-Power cells? (I admit to being surprised,
because I
understood these cells are supposedly better than the ones in
the
Classic.)
KC
