All right. I plan to record (in writing) every minute detail of
what I find out and what I do to find it out.

Kandi,
When you provide us with the information, be
sure to record the size of the document in
question, as well as the memory value (I'll
need to analyze it myself over the next day
or so, but I've got some academic stuff to
finish). Thanks for your encouragement.
P.S. This might turn out to be another issue
with the memory management that I've found
with the download problem.

Hi Joseph,
Like you I noticed that keyword and KeyBook
use more programming
memory, and just opening a large document
causes the programming
memory used to almost double. I'll try to
have an exact record
of how much programming memory and so on was
used before and
after running the programs by tomorrow, and
I'll forward it to
this list and to HumanWare.

Kandi,
I've put Andy's address on the also sent to
line. I'll also send my observations to
Mickey in a moment.
BTW, what was your observations?

You're right. I never understood that
before. Have you
forwarded your observations to humanware,
Andrew Ridden or Mickey
Quenzer or anyone?

Subject: [BrailleNote] temp solution: I've
finally found what's
going on!
Dear list and HumanWare staff, especially
Andy,
I've finally found ouwhat is causing the
leckup. It is determined and confirmed
(through my observations) that a program or
two eats (uses) a lot of memory.
I've ran all the programs (KeyWord, KeyPlan,
KeyList, KeyMail, KeyWeb, KSWMedia (Media
Player), KeyBook, KeyPlus, KeyBase, and the
IF emulator), checking the memory value each
time I run and switch to particular program.
So far, I've found two causes:
1. It seems that KeyBook tends to eat a lot
of memory (probably KeyWord is included in
this category since Book Reader is the
read-only version of KeyWord). While
browsing through programs, I've found that
Book Reader tends to eat around 512k of
memory.
2. Also, when a large document is opened, it
causes the program to eat a bunch of memory
as well. This fact is observed when a large
document (more than 128k of text) is opened
using KeyWord and/or KeyBook, particularly
KeyBook.
3. It is also confirmed that KeyWord and/or
KeyBook tends to eat three times more memory
than the file that is opened (for example, a
document is around 128k and it is opened by
KeyBook. The memory usage is around 400k or
more.). And it eats more memory when a
braille document is opened.
Procedure:
1. From Main Menu, go to Support Info mode
with Space with O/Space with I (FN plus
O/READ plus I).
2. Check the memory value with Space with
I/READ plus I.
3. Run Wordprocessor by selecting
wordprocessor.
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2, this time go to
Options Menu directly from the application.
5. Run Planner and repeat steps 1 and 2.
6. Run Address List, Email, Internet (you
must open a site), Media Player (you must
have a file playing), Book Reader (do this
twice: once when you are at the open prompt,
and second, when a file is opened; this
should also be performed with the
Wordprocessor), Scientific Calculator,
Database Manager (you must select at least
one database), Games (you must have at least
one game running), and check the memory value
each time you open the applications mentioned
above.
7. Then, switch to the applications
presented above, and check the memory value
each time you are switching to a application.
You'll find that KeyWord and KeyBook
(Wordprocessor and Book Reader, respectively)
uses a lot of memorw.
Note: for Wordprocessor and Book Reader, you
must condchmt the trial one more time: once,
you must open a short document from both
applications, second, you must open a long
(large) document from both applications, and
third, open a short document on one of the
programs and the large one on the other (for
example: short document in KeyWord and long
document in Book Reader).
I know that these instructions may sound
complicated, but when you execute (carry out)
these instructions step by step, you'll come
across the same conclusion as I did. I hope
this information may help you.
