You might want to call Humanware customer service and ask them if they can issue you a call tag so the unit can be picked up and checked out by humanware's service department. The package hopefully was insured and would be covered. Don't give up, you have a lot invested in your unit, and Humanware is a good company. If UPS caused the problem, they would have to pay the claim.

In answer to the question about the mPower, it was a brand new unit. I pupchased it in October, 2005, brand new.

tomorrow's not ours,

Subject: [Braillenote] Frustration!

Dear Andy and List:

Several weeks ago, Chuck and I had to send my mPower in. Since
the first day I purchased it, the dot four didn't work well, and
the Braille display was pretty bad. Because of cancer
treatments
and such, I needed to keep my unit. However, as the Braille
display got worse, I knew it was time to send it in.

The motherboard had to be replaced, along with the battery, and
the Braille display. I received some rude comments from Tech
Support, but let it pass, as I know there are many units that
need to be worked on.

I received my unit back today. It is a BN BT 18 cell display,
mPower, running 7.2, build 47. When I opened the box, the
BrailleNote was wet. I wiped it down very carefully. The unit
was ice cold. I realize the weather has been bad, but it went
out on Friday, and came to me today, Monday. I'm wondering how
it was stored. Imagine my dismay when I charged it up, turned
it
on, and there was no Braille. The message I get is: "Braille
Display is not operating.

Yes, I want to cry. I need this unit. What can I do? I can't
afford to send it in again.
