Sammy, why would you want one of these readers when your Braille Note or
Voice Note has the same capabilities built right in?
I heard an Interview with the product manager for Victor Readers and you
will need a pc. You download your book onto your pc plug your victor reader
stream in and move the book over onto the memory card or the s. d. card. As
far as unpacking the book, I don't know if that is accomplished on the
computer or not.
But yes, you will need apc to do this.

Subject: RE: [Braillenote] Question concerning Victor
ReaderandBrailleNoteuseability
Hello Mr. Lingard
No, this does not help. I still want to know whether this reader can be
used with my BrailleNote to download any type of material I wish, without
the added necessity of using a computer. I'm not interested in the NLS's
reader, because I believe I will receive it free. My concern is a reader
from Humanware which will cost more than $300.00 to purchase and may still
require me to be a computer user for it to work. I realize that my
BrailleNote is only a PDA to be used mostly in conjunction with a
computer, but if I were computer literate, I wouldn't have a $6500.00
MPower. I'd have a computer with JAWS or EYES and the ability to download
to a CF or SD card without a Victor Reader. And what I'm trying to do now
is get a comprehensive, straight-forward answer to this question: "Can the
Victor Reader be used with my BrailleNote without my needing some type of
personal computer?"
Thank you,
Sammie Clay

Hi Sharon and list:
You could use the BrailleNote to download DAISY books from the
NLS web site or Book Share instead of a PC, but I don't think NLS
has their DAISY book download service working yet.
I honestly forget whether the Victor Reader Stream, the unit you
are referring to for US $329 can or cannot use the new High
Capacity SD cards. I remember seeing something about this in its
User Guide, but forget just what it said.
HC SD cards are about half as expensive as the older SD cards for
the same storage capacity.
The Victor Reader Stream can also read text files as it has a
text to speech program on it.
Hope this helps.
