Hi Diane and list,
There is no way of checking the memory usage
of USB thumb drive nor a way to add
additional memory using USB flash drives.
Contrary to the salesperson I personally find
that ReadyBoost is indeed heliant on Vista
(for more info please write to me off list).
As Kevin pointed out, operating systems other
than Vista does not take advantage of this
"additional memory" - this includes Windows
CE - thus you cannot use free space on a USB
drive as additional memory (an alternative
option is increased virtual memory; for more
discussions about this refer to chats that
I've conducted). USB is a storage medium and
I must emphasize that just because it is
advertised as such BrailleNote family of
products (and any system that does not have
Vista) will not support ReadyBoost and
related technologies (don't confuse this with
ReadyDrive; it is a completely different
technology).
If you have any concerns about ReadyBoost,
either check out my Vista podcasts or write
to me off list.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: re: [Braillenote] USB CA FLASH DRIVE
Hi, Joseph and everyone,
This subject just gets curiouser and
curioser. I checked with
the TD sales staff, and the salesman
reassured me that this
particular flash drive doesn't have READY
BOOST as a component
and that its memory capability isn't reliant
on VISTA. When the
unit arrives, I'll check it out; and we will
discover together
what actually works. Once I have inserted
the drive into the USB
port, is there a way to monitor if the memory
capacity has
increased? Even if it turns out to be only a
storage device, The
final deal still is fantastic for just seven
dollars!
