Brian, 

The correct extension for Word 2007 files are .docs and no longer .doc. It is 
possible to use the Save As feature to save the 2007
file as a 2003 or earlier file, which will work as long as there are no complex 
formatting elements added.

Try saving the file in .RTF (Rich Text Format) on the PC.  This
should let you use it fine on the BrailleNote.

The correct extension for a MS Word document I believe is .doc
not docx.

Perhaps this has changed in Word 2007.
