Hi Stephen,
First of all, this happens if there are subdirectories under subdirectories - meaning that there are few folders which contains folders underneath. Also, there might be a possibility of files that cannot be removed. In this case, a better method would be to use Directory instead of Folder Manager. Go to DIRECTORY from File Manager then navigate to the drive where you have the backup folders. When you locate the folder in question, press SPACE with dots 5-6 (RIGHT ARROW on QT) to go to So-bdirectories (in computing, this is called tree structure or tree view). You should find subdirectories of the backup folder. Delete each one (BACKSPACE with dots 2-3-5-f/CTRL plus 8 on QT) and find the folderggness) you cannot delete. UsuYa this is Dictionaries folder. When this happens, press ENTER twice to go to file list. Press SPACE with X until you see "List of hidden files" prompt. Try deleting each file on the list and see what happens. If you are done, press SPACE with E (ESC) to exit to Drive prompt, then select another drive where you have the backup file. (Be careful: it should say "directory name" instead of "folder name." If this happens, press SPACE with t/CTRL plus T on QT to switch to Folder mode.)
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] File Manager erase
folder fails, directory not empty

Hi,

Some time ago, I took a full backup of the
flash disk twice.
The first was on to a memory stick, then the
second on to a Cf
card.
This gave me the same backup on to different
devices, in case one
broke or something.
Anyway, now four months later, I thought I
would delete them as
they are out of date.
So I used File Manager, Folder Manager, Erase
to do this on both
the folders where I had put the backups.
In both cases though, I had to do the erase
twice because the
first attempt did not complete.
I got the same messages, and same number of
files/folders erased
each time.

So, having chosen the folder and assured it I
did really want to
delete the folder and all it contained, it
asked if I wanted to
erase a protected file.
I Answered "a".
Then I was asked about deleting a hidden
file, and again I
answered "a".
I answered "y" to delete each database .cdb
file individually.
First attempt I got:-
87 folders erased. 900 files erased then
"The directory is not
empty."
Retried and:-
15 folders erased. 114 files erased.

I have seen this happen before, but never
recorded the details.
On previous occasions, I briefly checked to
see if the folders
left had anything in common, like all
contained subdirectories,
or all didn't, but nothing turned up.

This is on a BT32 transplant running 7.5.20.

Regards,
Steve.
