Hi Stacy;
Yes, nls books work fine with the bn.
You can actually download directly onto the bn with Nls brf
files.
The digital talking books are not supported I believe.
To download brf files from nls, first call your library and make
sure you are signed up to download these books.
You will be given a user name, which is your patron number and a
password that you choose.
YOU will be asked for these when you go to web braille or when
you click on the first book you want to download from the braille
book review site.
The brf files are separated by volume, volume 1 2 etc.
Unfortunately, every time you go to one of the volumes to open
it, you have to acknowledge the pledge, which I find annoying.
Use space with dots 4-6 to move to the controls if you have a bt
keyboard, I don't know the querty command for this.
Be sure that if you are using the bn to download directly, you
choose the "I accept best for notetakers version.
Once you click on the first volume or any volume, accept the
pledge by hitting enter and the book will open.
Sometimes you can read the book right online and sometimes it
just shows a blank page.
Don't be discouraged by this, the book is still there, you just
can't read it online, I don't know why this is.
Then, all you have to do if you want to save the book is hit
space with s on a bt, and you can choose the drive etc.
I usually rename the book, because the name of the file will come
out as a bunch of numbers and letters otherwise.
Be sure to include the volume number as well, so you know which
volume you are going to read.
Some of the books can have ten or more volumes and some have just
one or two.
You do the same process for each volume including the pledge
thing.
If you live in the Us, you can also join Bookshare.
You pay d50 a year plus an initial setup fee of d20.
The books are easier to download in my opinion, because you don't
have to accept a pledge every time you download a book, and the
books are in one file rather than in volumes.
In Bookshare, and don't open the book first as you do in Nls,
rather, you are asked where you want to download the file.
The files are zipped, but your bn should have the unzipper
installed, just follow the prompts of the books in Bookshare have
errors and some of them are excellent quality.
Happy reading

Subject: [Braillenote] downloading books?
Hi every one. Okay so I am interested in downloading some books
on to my bn. Does the bn support books from the National Library
Service, (nls)? Also, there are some books from nls that are on
their website that are braille files, is this duable on the bn?
I was looking in the manual and it was recommended that the books
be downloaded to the pc and then transferred to the bn. Is
Activesync the best way to transfer the books to the bn? I don't
have a card reader or anything attached to my pc. Sorry for all
my questions!
Best to all,
Stacy
