Hi All
My name is John Ramm, I live in the UK, I have owned a BrailleNote
MPower for just over a year now, and I haven't yet managed to make it
function as a Bluetooth braille display with my laptop in that time.
I would be grateful for any help here, so I'll give you all some details.
I have a BrailleNote MPower BT running Keysoft 7.2Build 43 and
Windows CE version 4.20. I have a Dell Latitude D430 laptop running
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2. As far as I know I have installed the
latest drivers for the dell Bluetooth module on the laptop, butI'm
willing to examine that point if anyone thinks it matters. I have
Window-Eyes v6.0 as my screen reader of choice, although for
experimental purposes I also have a demo of Jaws 9 if that would help.
What have I done so far?
I have installed Microsoft Activesync v4 on the laptop.
I have set up a Bluetooth serial port on the laptop.
I have set Window-Eyes to use the serial port number assigned to the
Bluetooth device.
As I sit here my Braillenot is reporting that it has paired with my
laptop and that activeSync is active.
what's the problem?
The problem is that if I hit t from the Braillenote main menu the
following happens:
it says, "Braille terminal port? Bluetooth"
I hit enter and tell it to connect to my laptop.
I hear a single beep, and the braille display says, "Braille
terminal", but if I hit a thumb key I just get a blank display and no
keys make any difference.
On the laptop a dialogue has now popped up which says:
Microsoft ActiveSync
Microsoft ActiveSync cannot recognise this device for one of two reasons:
The device was not connected properly. To start over, disconnect the cable
and remove the device from it's cradle. Then connect the cable to the PC ,
turn on the device, and place the device in it's cradle.
If the device is still not recognised, click help
The device is not a Smartphone or Pocket PC. To keep ActiveSync from trying
to connect to this or any other device on the Port, select the checkbox
below.
There is a checkbox which I can check and which is labeled: Stop
ActiveSync from looking for device on the serial/infrared port, but
as I am attempting to connect using a serial port it would feel
counter intuative to do this.
By now my head is starting to real, and this may be enough detail for now.
I should mention that everything works fine if I connect via the
serial cable and the apropriate port, but I really want to work
wirelessly, and this has become a bit of a challenge.
