As I was told by a tech support guy at Humanware, some of these
cards, including mine, need to be put in the mPower before
turning it on to be recognized. I understand a previously
available card could be installed with the note taker on but this
seems not to be the case now. Try installing first, then turning
on the note taker, and wait a minute or so or until the network
shows up in your drive list and all should work well. I don't
know if it makes any difference but I generally remove the
ethernet card while the mPower is turned on and hear the card
removed message when I am done with internet access.

You didn't say how long you waited after turning on your note
taker before attempting to access the network through the E-mail
or web browser client. I use a Socket low power 10/100 ethernet
card that has to be inserted in my Voice Note mPower before
turning it on and ran into similar problems when I first started
using it. I discovered that simply waiting a few seconds to hear
the "network card recognized" message wasn't long enough. That
initial message only indicates the note taker has found the card.
You need to wait maybe thirty seconds to a minute longer for the
card to actually negotiate its connection to the internet, or
that has been my experience connecting to my router. You can
tell
when the connection is ready by going to the file menu and doing
a directory check. Press space bar to move down the list of
available directories to see if "network" has appeared yet. If
it
hasn't go back to the previous prompt and press space again after
a short wait and you will probably hear network on the second
pass unless your network is down. I use clearwire for my
connection and have on occasion run into a situation where the
network is down but that is fairly rare.

I too have been experiencing this behaviour of my ethernet card.
It is something that has crept in with recently issued upgrades.
Until your message, I had thought it was just my Mpower that was
effected. I even purchased a new ethernet card, believing my old
one to have become faulty; an expensive diagnosis, for it behaves
in the same way. I have discovered that sometimes a reset with
dots 123 held down will do the trick; otherwise, I take out the
ethernet card, put in a standard cf card. The Mpower will
normally pick up this card. Once it has acknowledged it, the
unit appears to also once again accept the ethernet card, but
never with the unit turned on. Perhaps this will stabilise with
future development.
