Dear Terry and List,
Terry, you're partially right, but I think even the classics with older displays are affected, so she won't be able to get another contract as it is.

Hi Jenny;
I transplanted to an m-power about 2 years ago. I am rather
disturbed
to find out about about the older Braille displays, no longer
being
covered by worenty. If you get a transplant, you will have this
same
problem. If anything goes wrong with your display, you will have
to pay
for the hole repair. On top of it you will be paying $3,000 to
maybe
$4,000 to transplant from 5.0 to the current. I upgraded and
payed
$2,000+ for I think a two step upgrade. I would compare prices
and for
maybe $2,000 to $3,000 more, you could have a brand new unit with
a
woranty and the ability to have a maintainance agreement if you
want.
You could also watch for a second hand unit with a newer Braille
display
to go on sale. Then your older unit could be a back up when your
M-power has to go in the shop.
Please do not quote my figures. They are just estimates.

That's actually what I was thinking of doing...Upgrading to 7.5,
than
send
it in later for the upgrade to M-Power.

You cannot update an old bn before sending it in, unless you want
to
update
it to keysoft 7 or something.

Hi Kevin,

Actually, I did recently receive an Email from the Sendero Group
containing
the information about upgrading Keysoft for a very reduced price.
This is
what got me brainstorming about upgrade options, in fact. To be
honest, it
looks like it will actually be more cost effective to upgrade the
software
first, then send the unit in for a transplant. However, I will
have to do
some more checking around before I make any concrete decisions.

Thanks!

Jenny

Jenny,

I know that Sendero and a few other companies have this deal
where it is
possible to upgrade from a really old version of KeySoft to the
latest 7.5
at a fraction of the cost. This might be something worht looking
into. You
cna find more about it from any of the following:

Hi Nick, Bob and Kevin! Thank you each for taking the time to
respond. I
did finally manage to find a bit of information regarding
transplants on the
Humanware website. However, I intend to make a couple of calls
tomorrow to
explore my options. I am chomping at the bit to get current
again, that's
for sure!

Jenny,

There is a transplant solution that will allow for you to upgrade
from the
Classic BrailleNote to the mPower and at the the same time you
can upgrade
to the latest KeySoft 7.5 Build 28. I would get in contact with
the
HumanWare Customer Service department for further detail.

Kevin

Subject: [Braillenote] Introduction

Hello all! My name is Jenny, and I am new to the list, although
not new to
the braille note. I actually have what seems like an ancient
braille note
classic running Keysoft 5.0, but am desperately searching for
ideas as to
how I can upgrade. I am strongly considering upgrading Keysoft
itself to
7.5, but upon reading a couple of previous posts on this list, it
appears
there may actually be a way to upgrade my classic to the M-power
while
keeping my current braille display, which I suspect would drop
the cost
significantly. If anybody would be willing to share a little
more
information as to how this can be accomplished or can point me in
the right
direction to find out myself, it would be greatly appreciated.
Otherwise, I
simply wanted to introduce myself, say hello and add that I look
forward to
learning more from everyone here!

Thanks!

Jenny
