Hi, if you are going to upgrade your software then think about the transplant later then you better ask your local humanware how much longer they will be offering the transplant option. I suggest this because the Australia office has already said that they are stopping the transplants but they will be offering another option in the future. They haven't said what this option is from what I can remember but it is worth looking into if you want to take up the option of transplanting.

As for people's worries about the cells in the current displays breaking and there being no replacement because parts aren't around. Well I have had this display for a number of years without any problems, I bought it second hand and I have never had to send it in for repairs. I had a small problem with dots sticking just before I sent it in for the transplant but I know what caused it and I know how to stop it happening again, User error not machines problem. So when I sent it in for the transplant I asked them to look at it and they said that they would clean them and I haven't had any problems with it since.

So my advice is if you want to go for the transplant go ahead don't worry about the parts problem. If you take good care of your machine hopefully you won't have any major problems.

Just to note my display has been through all versions of the braillenote and it is still going strong. Before I brought it it had been upgraded from the braillenote original to the classic and now I have upgraded it to an MPower.

Bye for now,
From Shaz.

Hi Jenny,
Welcome to this list. I'm sure that you'll
get many answers to many questions on this
list.
From economic standpoint, I think it is
better to spend $500 to upgrade to 7.5
disusing Classic) and then use transplant to
upgrade to the mPower (instead of paying over
$2800 for transplant plus 4 SMA's you've
missed (6.1, 7.0, 7.2, 7.5). After that,
it's up to you.
Feel free to ask any BrailleNote questions
here. I'm sure many experts out there would
be glad to answer your questions.
Cheers,
Joseph P.S. As to older KeySoft, the best
person to ask would be Matthew Horspool.

Subject: [Braillenote] Introduction

Hello all! My name is Jenny, and I am new to
the list, although not new to
the braille note. I actually have what seems
like an ancient braille note
classic running Keysoft 5.0, but am
desperately searching for ideas as to
how I can upgrade. I am strongly considering
upgrading Keysoft itself to
7.5, but upon reading a couple of previous
posts on this list, it appears
there may actually be a way to upgrade my
classic to the M-power while
keeping my current braille display, which I
suspect would drop the cost
significantly. If anybody would be willing
to share a little more
information as to how this can be
accomplished or can point me in the right
direction to find out myself, it would be
greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I
simply wanted to introduce myself, say hello
and add that I look forward to
learning more from everyone here!

Thanks!

Jenny
