Here's the thing. The BrailleNote is a PDA. One of the important
considerations for rating PDAs is the quality of the experience in going
between the PDA and a computer. The fact that there are major issues with
Word support is a major strike against the BN, and pointing this out is not
saying that the BN should have computer functionality, it's saying it should
have PDA functionality.

Subject: [Braillenote] PDA's and computers

Hi list,
Just my thoughts on the negative feedback regarding the upgrade. It's
my opinion that the BN is not to be used as a computer substitute. I
don't know many sighted people who rely solely on their PDA's without
possessing a laptop or other PC as well. The BN is a great machine,
but it's not a computer and therefore cannot be expected to behave as
one. I am aware that other PDA's for the blind have slightly more
improved Word and HTML support compared to the BN, and I am
disappointed as well that this wasn't addressed in the coming upgrade.
but at the same time, there are still limitations to everything,
because again, there is no substitute for a computer, which can be
purchased for about a third of the price of the BN, screen readers
included.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is, please remember that the BN is
wonderful, but not a computer. As a college student, I rely on both
pieces of equipment equally. Just something to think about!
KD
