Hi List, I wonder if anyone can suggest sources of electronic textbook files that work with the Braille Note (sources other than Bookshare).
I'm a graduate student and I prefer to read my textbooks as braille files on the Braille Note. But, unless I get lucky and find books from cooperative publishing companies, this means I often have to scan all of my books, save them as files that can be opened on the BN (e.g., Rich Text), and then save them as kwb or brf files on the BN. That's not a problem except when I get in a time crunch and don't have the time to do all the scanning I need to do. So, can anybody recommend any websites, organizations, or companies that either offer textbooks in a format that can be accessed by the BN or accept requests to scan and prepare textbooks in a format accessible to the BN? I know Bookshare meets this definition, but I've found that they do not usually have the textbooks I need, and I was informed that it could take them from 1-2 months to scan a single textbook and add it to their collection. They are an option if I know my textbook info well in advance, but sometimes I don't find out textbook info until several weeks before the begining of classes. Thus, I'm really hoping to find websites with more extensive collections of textbooks already scanned and ready to be opened on the BN. Or at least, places that can do the scanning in a shorter period of time if I provide the hard copy of the print book. Any suggestions you guys have would be welcomed and very much appreciated. Thank you. Lauren ___ Replies to this message will go directly to the sender. If your reply would be useful to the list, please send a copy to the list as well.
