I don't like the service policy either, especially having UPS pick it up from me, or sending it back, last two times I have gotten anything from HW UPS delivered at about 2 in the afternoon on one day, and the day I arranged to be here so they could re-deliver, they did not show up until after 7 in the evening. I had called to see if they could give me a time frame and they said between 8 AM and 7 PM which is not at all helpful, if they delivered in my area at 7 PM every day, I would be home. It makes me hesitate to ever have anything serviced or to buy another product no matter how good it is. However, since I saw nothing about being able to access Word documents improvement, I won't be spending money here, the Word issues have existed since 2002 and some of us have been asking for better Word support since then and we don't even get an inkling that such is in the Braille Note future. I work where we use Word 2007 daily and I receive many attachments that I would love to read on the Braille note but have to go through a complicated, time-consuming process to access these documents and often columns are totally missing even at that. My time is valuable, especially on the job. I am not exactly in a buying frame of mind at present but, since HW is not listening to my Word concerns and their service is horrible, and the fact that they continue to be exclusive to UPS when we many of us have complaints about that service, despite the fact that I was a loyal Braille Note supporter in the past, my next note taker purchase will be probably with another company. I hate having to consider not using a Braille note because I love the design but more and more it isn't meeting my needs in the work place.

I've already bought a BrailleSense Plus and I won't buy another notetaker. I bought the new notetaker because the cells on my BrailleNote mPowere needed to be repaired and I didn't want to send it clear up to Canada to be repaired. I wasn't sure the box I had was the right one and I couldn't take it all to a ups place because HumanWare has ups pick up the package directly from me. I have always loved my BN, but I don't like HumanWare's quality of service. Before they moved the repair service to Canada, I sent it in for repair on the cells. When I got it back the cells that were faulty were repaired but soon afterwords I noticed different cells wer faulty. This kind of service stinks! HumanWare used to have an excellent reputation for service and support and for product quality but their reputation is shot now. I would hesitate to buy any product from HumanWare nowadays. I hate to be so crass and mundane, but, particularly in this economy, is no one alarmed at the price? Over $6000? Who can afford this? How many state agencies can afford it for how many of their clients? It seems to me that more and more mainstream off-the-shelf products are becoming, or at least attempting to become more accessible to blind people. As much as I'd love to have an Apex, it is impossible at this price. So I at least will wait and see what develops out there...i-phones, gps, net books, Amazon's kindle or the other book reader that was recently announced, and so on. The BT Braille displays are also pricey, but I still think one would come away saving a significant chunk of change using one with these other cheaper products. It's too bad, because the BN is really a good product that I like very much. But until something is done about the price, I think many of us will be kept out of the Humanware market. the poverty-stricken Alice Alice [email protected] ___ Replies to this message will go directly to the sender.
