Subject: [Braillenote] the Apex
I read with interest all the questions and answers and Alex's
wonderful presentation of what the Apex has compared with the
MPower.
I hate to be so crass and mundane, but, particularly in this
economy, is no one alarmed at the price? Over $6000? Who can
afford this? How many state agencies can afford it for how many
of their clients?
It seems to me that more and more mainstream off-the-shelf
products are becoming, or at least attempting to become more
accessible to blind people. As much as I'd love to have an Apex,
it is impossible at this price. So I at least will wait and see
what develops out there...i-phones, gps, net books, Amazon's
kindle or the other book reader that was recently announced, and
so on. The BT Braille displays are also pricey, but I still think
one would come away saving a significant chunk of change using
one with these other cheaper products. It's too bad, because the
BN is really a good product that I like very much. But until
something is done about the price, I think many of us will be
kept out of the Humanware market.
