Hi Carol,
Thanks much for the suggestion, but I've had no luck with it I'm
afraid. Guess I'll try to let the PK run down and then power it
on and see what happens. Oh, well, I know these units have older
hardware and continuing to use them is a gamble, but I sure wish
it hadn't decided to give me this problem right after I purchased
my 2010 GPS and 2 count SMA, not to mention just before I am
going home to visit my family this weekend and staying there
through next week. At least, if I can't get it fixed, Sendero do
allow one to pay for a GPS license transfer, but I didn't want to
avail myself of that at this point, not to mention trying to
figure out what unit to buy for that transfer. And, I also now
have to decide whether to take my larger mPower with its up to
date maps, or my much more portable Voice Sense with its much
older maps on my trip. But, guess I really shouldn't complain,
as I am fortunate enough to be able to have backup technology.
And, who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and the PK will come back to
life as yours did.

equipment, my BNPK
Vicky,
Don't despair!
I had a similar happening yesterday and, believe me, it was quite
bizzar!
Again I was using the 2010, almost for the first time. My BN had
been given
a route of less than two miles and suddenly it just started
making the
weirdest noise, a bit like a bad fan! Nothing (I mean nothing) I
could do
would solve it and the noise wouldn't stop. I couldn't move the
display,
turn off, reset of any kind - no, nothing!
I plugged into the mains, but still no change!
After about half an hour and having had a conversation with Tech
Support
here in the UK, I decided the only thing for it was to let the BN
power
down, so run till the battery was out and then try again ...
Well, I
couldn't bear it after another further 20 minutes or so and
decided just to
play around. After all, I had nothing much to lose!
The C1,C4 reset hadn't worked till this point - and it didn't
when I tried
again! Then I just tried C1,C3 and C4, touching the C3 and
releasing it
before the others I think. Wow! It worked! ...
It's not a documented feature - in fact, not a feature at all -
and it may
not work for you but, hey, what have you to lose!
I'll be very interested to know if you solve this one and do hope
that you
can let me know that you have, in whatever way you solve it!
<Smiles
Happy playing, or perhaps praying if you wish! <Smiles

Subject: [Braillenote] guess this is the day for dead
equipment, my BNPK
Well, as the subject line says, guess this is the day for
this sort of thing. I was running the 2010 version of
the Sendero GPS this morning, although I guess it really
could have been any program. But, right in the middle of
going down through the menus, my PK froze and just
wouldn't do anything. So, I tried the C 3 and C 4 reset;
and, although the PK did chime, it just sat wouldn't do
anything else.
So, after a couple of minutes, I did the C 1 and C 4 to
turn off the unit. But, every time I turn on the unit
now, it makes the sound like it is turning on, the
Braille display shows the Braillenote PK, and then the
display goes blank and I can't get any speech. The unit
is still on, as I can hear the hum through headphones,
but there is no speech or Braille, not after that initial
few seconds that I mentioned. I already had the unit at
about fifty percent charged, but I left it plugged in for
another hour or so and still get the same results.
Anyone had this kind of thing happen with their unit
before? And, if so, how much did it cost you to get it
fixed? You might recall that I have an older unit, got
it used a few months ago, and it is likely well over five
years old if the serial number means anything--saying
this because this one I have now has a serial number
earlier than the first PK I got in November 2004 and sold
a couple of years ago. So, if it is going to cost a lot,
then guess I have a decision to make on just what I do
next.
