Carol, you can write text as well as read it, and there is a whole set of commands for navigation. As far as I know, you can have a second keyboard paired at the same time. Once the apex and iTouch are connected, you have braille and typing at the same time, no extra steps. Note that you will sometimes get odd grade 2 translation errors if you pause while typing, such as a letter expanding into its grade 2 contraction (c to can, go to go, t to that...) even if the letter is connected to a word. If you type quickly and do not pause until you hit the spacebar you should be fine, though. Also, because of the delay the iTouch imposes to know when to translate or not, you will see the text you enter about a second after you actually type it on the apex.
