Carol, you can write text as well as read it, and there is a whole set of commands for navigation. As far as I know, you can have a second keyboard paired at the same time. Once the apex and iTouch are connected, you have braille and typing at the same time, no extra steps. Note that you will sometimes get odd grade 2 translation errors if you pause while typing, such as a letter expanding into its grade 2 contraction (c to can, go to go, t to that...) even if the letter is connected to a word. If you type quickly and do not pause until you hit the spacebar you should be fine, though. Also, because of the delay the iTouch imposes to know when to translate or not, you will see the text you enter about a second after you actually type it on the apex. I did not think a reset on the bn would hurt anything since the important pairing information is all on the iPod, but I was not sure and really did not want to do a service or 4 5 6 reset to find out. You may not be able toseewhat you are writing, but just use a number sign and the standard literary numbers, and do not pause in writing, and it shouldwork.I want to stress that, despite my first thoughts, this can bedonecompletely silently. No need to dig out earbuds for just fiveseconds,just pull out the iPod, put the apex in terminal mode, unlock,andaway you go. Of course, if bluetooth is turned off on the iPod,thiswill not work; you must have already paired the apex with theiPodthrough the Braille option of the VoiceOver settings. Oncepairedonce, though, the two will remain paired unless you tell the iPodtoforget the Apex or, maybe, if you reset the iPod.
