The DBC also has the ability to send and receive TTY tones.

David,
DBC is "deaf blind communicator," special software that requires
a special cell phone sold by HW and the software for the DBC.
Both of these must be purchased through HW. The DBC has two
modes, basic and advanced. Basic mode has most of KeySoft
disabled except KeyChat, and advanced mode has all the normal
KeySoft functionality. The DBC allows people who are both deaf
and blind to communicate with sighted people through the cell
phone. Two DBCS can communicate through bluetooth, serial or USB
but they must be near each other in order for this to work.
However, with advanced mode, instant messaging is enabled (it
isn't in basic mode) so two deaf-blind people can communicate
through IM as long as both are running DBC advanced mode.
I don't own a DBC, but I have read the manual and have a pretty
good memory. However, maybe another lister can comment on this
to verify it.
HTH,
Josh
