I don't know of a move by character command, but space-d or the two left thumbkeys (back and previous) delete characters. If you have 8-dot enabled on the apex as well as the iPod,you can't enter 8 dot characters in terminal mode. This is another apex bug, nothing to do with iOS, so that's one thing to check.
