If you can leave 8 dot off on the apex, then it works on the iPod just
fine. You can also try hitting space with an 8-dot character in
terminal mode if you have to leave 8 dot enabled on the apex.
Here are the thumbkey commands:
outer outer left/right: left/right flick
inner left/right: pan braille
both left: delete
both right: enter
both inner: home
both outer: toggle screen curtain
