Thanks. I guess the way to turn 8 dot braille off on the apex on the fly is
backspace with g?
also, I'm finding the 4 5 6 enter command quirky... Does it not always work?
Or am I missing something?

If you can leave 8 dot off on the apex, then it works on the iPod just
fine. You can also try hitting space with an 8-dot character in
terminal mode if you have to leave 8 dot enabled on the apex.
Here are the thumbkey commands:
outer outer left/right: left/right flick
inner left/right: pan braille
both left: delete
both right: enter
both inner: home
both outer: toggle screen curtain

Oh... interesting... I guess that answers my last post. So is it better
to
just toggle contracted braille on and off since that seems to work with no
problem?
I tried the thumb keys for deleting and had no problem with that one.
Thanks for your help.

I don't know of a move by character command, but space-d or the two
left thumbkeys (back and previous) delete characters.
If you have 8-dot enabled on the apex as well as the iPod,you can't
enter 8 dot characters in terminal mode. This is another apex bug,
nothing to do with iOS, so that's one thing to check.

For some reason, I'm noticing that when I try to use dot 7 and a letter
to
make the letter uppercase, I'm not seeing the capitalization. whenI try
to
use backspace and space to go back a character as I did with focus, it
doesn't seem to perform that function... I was on the facebook site
trying
to type my status, and I noticed that.
I agree that enter 456 is cumbersome... I like the two thunbkeys command
better...

Yes, enter-4-5-6 is useful, but I would rather see hw offer a mode in
which that keystroke is not necessary before any keysoft command.
Any display, such as the focus and apex, will share all keyboard
commands. The differences come in their "special" keys, so the focus
wheels and other navigation buttons will do certain commands, and the
apex's thumb keys will do different ones. All displays share braille
commands though.

Thanks. I downloaded your podcast on common braille commands, and many
are
the same as Focus 40 blue, but the passthrough one is interesting for
apex... I never would have guessed space with 4556 is what it is...
I also have the one you did on safari which I really haven't played
with
yet.
Great stuff!

That's great news! The 4 5 6 reset likely cleared out the bluetooth
connections on the apex side. This is good information to have, so
thanks for sharing the solution. If you have questions about commands
or how to do anything, let us know, and don't forget that I have a
couple other demos in the media center of braillenoteusers.info
demonstrating basic usage. There is also the braille section of
aios.applevis.com.

Hi Alex and all!
Thanks Alex for all your help with this. I called Tech support
tonight.
They
had me do a 456 reset, and my apex and phone paired the first time!
So
glad
it finally worked!!!! i really wanted this to happen since it's the
device I
carry with my the most.
Thanks again for all your help!
