Hello Jane: If you are using for your PC windows 98 or ME, you might have to install the drivers for your reader. With my reader I can put the card in upside down meaning the edge of the card might be face down. Actually when I am talking about the card, I am refering to the CF card which actually has a ridge.
I would suggest to flip the card over and try again or if you are using one of the windows operating systems mentioned above, install the drivers.
