Hi Anne,
The software can handle both.
You will be asked if you want to cancel one of the appointments or schedule 
anyway.
I found out how this works.
When your alarm goes off, if you then review your appointments, it will tell 
you that you have x appointments, where x is the number of appointments.
Go right ahead and schedule away!!
