I did what you suggested with no difficulty. then I tried to connect and still got the same message dialing then after several seconds no carrier. I wonder if there is a setting on the Nokia 3650 that needs to be executed to get the port working on the phone?

You must set the option of waiting for the dialtone to NO when using your cell phone. From the main menu, hit e to enter keymail. Next hit s for the setup options. From there, hit d to enter your directory of services, and l to look up a service. Select the service that goes along with your cell phone.
