Hi Gary.

Firstly, let me say that one of the things that made me pleased to come
and work for Pulse Data International was the way it handled the hardware
upgrade. Contrast this with other PDA manufacturers who offer completely
new units regularly, and I think PDI has behaved extremely ethically in
making sure that existing users had a chance to upgrade their existing
machines without having to buy a new unit. Of course, there is more to the
new hardware than just Internet access. Also, having seen the numbers, I
can tell you that if this were purely a business decision, we'd have to
charge a lot more than we do for the board upgrades. Perhaps it would have
been better if we had, because then there would be more resources for
continuing development. However, as you rightly point out, not everyone
has access to bottomless Government funding and we wanted to price the
upgrades in a way that acknowledged the early adopters' contribution to
the product.

Regarding the SDK, this pre-dates me of course, but what seems to have
happened is that the SDK was originally planned before there was a massive
customer clammer for a browser. Keep in mind that this BrailleNote list
has a tiny fraction of our user base participating in it, and we get
feedback from many other sources. The calls for a browser were
overwhelming, so while promises were initially made to do the SDK, those
resources were channelled into browser development. Since then, we've gone
on to produce products in other markets that we don't generally hear about
on this list. I appreciate though that if we made a public statement about
something being iminent, you have a right to think it will happen. And
that's why, while there is a tremendous amount of exciting stuff going on
right now, I'm being disciplined and will not get specific until I'm
absolutely sure when and what we will deliver.

In the mean time, we have a package with very solid Foundations, with
capabilities in our core applications well beyond those found in similar
devices. And it's only going to get better.
