Gary and Maria,

That's an error in the 5.0 manual. Previous versions of the User's Guide says
that the command used for auto-advance of the display is just SPACE with dots
1-2-4-5-6 (SHIFT with READ with G). The command executed when the BACK and
ADVANCE thumb keys are pressed together is to route the cursor to the start of
the displayed line. These commands are in Section 15.1.1, "Operating Modes".

Roselle

>Gary,
>The command for advancing the display by pressing the BACK and ADVANCE thumb
>keys together shouldn't work because it's meant for another purpose. It says
>in section 3.9.1 (in the BT Manual) "Reading Using the Braille Dispay" that
>auto-advance is done either by pressing BACK and ADVANCE together or SPACE
>with dots 1-2-4-5-6; however, in section 4.3 "Braille Display Thumb Key
>Commands" it says the command involving the thumb keys routes the cursor to
>the beginning of the braille display window, and the keyboard command starts
>auto-advance. When I tried it, the thumb keys affected the cursor and the
>SPACE with 1-2-3-4-5-6 made the display auto-advance. I don't know why your
>keyboard command wouldn't invoke the advance mode, but I can tell you for sure
>the thumb key command isn't meant to do so, and it's a mistake in
>documentation. If you've been having this problem for a while, it might be a
>hardware issue, and contacting PDI for repair might help you. Sometimes, when
>the
BN wouldn't let me perform certain commands, I would do a reset with no keys
held down, and everything would return to normal. Since I've never had your
problem, I don't know if doing the no-key reset would work for sure. Hope this
helps.
