I am having real problems with my address list. Hopefully somebody on this list can help. I talked with pulsedata about this last Thursday and, after trying a bunch of things that didn't work, they said they'd get in touch with me within 24 hours. I guess pdi time is not the same as my time, because I'm still waiting for a call back.
On Thursday, for some unknown reason, I lost my address list (at least I got the message asking me if I wanted to create the database), which I most assuredly did not want to do. Fortunately, I had copied my keylist folder to my storage card. However, apparently I was a little late, because when I went to look for the database it was empty. But I did find a backup of my flash disk which included my keylist folder on it. I restored my entire flash disk and everything worked fine. Working fine does not include the irritation of having to lose everything on my flash disk. Then this morning I started to add someone's address to my address list, and the stupid BN wanted me to create the database again. So, I restored my flash disk again, this time to no avail. So I copied the address definition file and the address database to the keylist folder of my flash disk drive, and all appears to be okay again. What I want to know is why did the restore not do the trick today when it work quite well last week? And why does the "lookup address" keep wanting me to create the database in the first place? However, this whole batch of problems bring up an issue I have with PDI documentation. Why can't we get real true technical information in the user's manual, or, if they like, maybe a technical reference. Then we user's might be able to solve some of our own problems. For example, I tried my best to figure how to pull out the data from the .cdb file in case I had to re-enter the data. I couldn't look at it with the wordprocessor or book reader, or even copy it to a pc where I could manipulate it there. And, it would have been nice to know that I could just copy the desired files from a backup folder with out restoring the entire flash disk. Before some of you jump my case for being "anti PDI" let me tell you that I do believe in the BN, I simply have issues with the amount and type of documentation we user's get. When we purchase our BN, we should acquire the information it takes to keep it running at peak performance. But, we don't. We've bought the best notetaker around, and a user's manual that is pedantic, misleading and, at times talk down to us. I said at the top of this message that I wanted help. Well, I've already gotten help from this group. You've provided a sounding board for my frustrations. Thanks, Bob
