Hi, Josh,

I think the Keynote Companion was a great PDA! The commands are almost the
same as the BrailleNote. I think the Braille Companion's commands were
probably the same as the braille style keyboard for the BN. DOS was the
operating system for the Companions.

When I looked at a friend's Braille 'n Speak, I was shocked. The speech was
terrible and he had to go through hoops to do the same things I could so
easily do with my KNC!

The thing which makes the BN stand out is its built-in braille display. I
started out with the KNC and the VoiceNote QT, but I wouldn't want to use
them, as fine as they are, because I've become so braille dependent.

Still, it's good to be able to buy a voice-only product if you can't afford
a braille display.

Subject: [Braillenote] thank god for the braille note!

: Hi,
:
: I just got off the phone with one of my friends who goes to the same
college
: that I do. She has a braille lite m20 or m40 or something like that. We
: tried using my braille note flash card in her PDA (E.G. braille Lite,) but
: it didn't work. There's a program that needs to be run just to access the
: flash drive and it was corrupted. I told her several times to push for bvs
: to get her a braille note, at least a braille note 18 bt if not more. Oh
and
: also, she lost seven pages of class--notes that she needs for class. This
: has never happened yet. In fact, today I spent 20 minutes erasing every
file
: and folder on my flash disk and did a complete re-install of keysoft5. I'm
: so glad I got away from freedom scientific PDA's!!
: And hopefully she'll be getting a braillenote soon too! It's so easy to
use.
: No graphical user interface and no having to learn to use pocket jaws with
a
: six-key keyboard. Jaws with a braille keyboard? doesn't sound right to me.
: In fact, I'm almost sorry that my Vision teacher didn't buy me a keynote
: companion in high school instead of a braille lite18. The braille lite
: doesn't use neither dos or windows, I don't know what it uses, but I
: personally, call it the Blazie operating system. I think one of the main
: reasons for braille note's stability is that it uses windows as it's
: underlying operating system. Whereas the braille lite does not. Were the
: keynote companions just as good of PDA's? I know the Keynote Companions
used
: dos as their operating systems.
