Terry,

What I discussed is just one method of selecting a new date. It is discussed
in section 9.3.1 and the commands are also given in the Command Summary,
section 15.4.1.

Another method, which is to enter the desired date, is discussed only in
section 9.3.2 (not in the Command Summary), although there are errors in that
section I have yet to report to PDI (so I'm sending a CC of this to Maryanne
Cathro). It says there are two date formats that the BN can use to present the
date. One format is month-day-year, while the other is day-month-year. True,
and you can just press ENTER with D to see which one is currently set for your
BN.
However, whichever format you use to type in the preferred date works for both
cases. What it fails to mention, and I think this is where you tripped, is
that if you use the month-day-year format with letters for the month name, you
must put a letter sign (dots 5-6) before typing the month or the first three
letters of the month name; otherwise, the BN presumes automatically that you
are entering a number and reads j in January as 0 and d in December as 4, for
instance.
Now, when you press P from the Main Menu, then O to open the calendar, you can
type the preferred date as follows:
26 january 04
26 january 2004
26 jan 04
26 jan 2004
january 26 04
january 26 2004
jan 26 04
jan 26 2004

Note that any of these eight styles will work, in whichever format your BN is
displaying the date. Also, if the preferred date is within the current year,
2003, say 25 december 2003, then you can omit the two- or four-digit number
indicating the year.
Remember, for the last four styles listed above, you must type in a letter sign
first. Also, numbers must be preceded by a Braille number sign (dots 3-4-5-6).

The only time the date format used will matter is when you're entering the
preferred date using numbers for the day, month and year. You must place a
Braille number sign before the two-digit day number, another before the
two-digit month number, and again one more before the two- or four-digit year
number. Look at the following:
For the day-month-year format, you type
26 01 04
26 01 2004
For the month-day-year format, you type
01 26 04
01 26 2004
Unlike what the manual seems to imply, having spaces or no spaces between the
groups of numbers does not make any difference.

HTH,
Roselle

>The calendar worked. Why didn't they put those commands in the command
>list? They had entering letters. This is so much easier. It should be in
>the new manual.
>Thanks again.
