Hello all, The list guidelines have been put in place to prevent the potential chaos that Jonathan Mosen spoke of on the list yesterday, as well as to try and keep the majority of the list subscribers satisfied that they are actually reading email on the topic they have subscribed to learn or talk about.
Should the off topic messages continue, as list manager, I will tell the mailman software (under which this list operates), to only send email from specific individuals, once it has been approved. This feature has always been present in the list software we have used, but PDI has never had to implement it. Indeed, it would be a crying shame if PDI had to use it now. However, we will have no hesitation in doing so should the need arise. this feature is not meant to infringe on the freedom of speech this list currently enjoys. As past history would witness, PDI quite readily accepts criticism regarding its products and indeed, the criticism has helped to further enhance product development. As list manager, I would also like to remind people that they are not the ones getting the email complaining about the list content, during times such as these when the BrailleNote list is cluttered with messages of a argumentative nature regarding list guidelines and other subjects that aren't strictly BrailleNote related. Folks may also be interested to know that I get an email each time someone unsubscribes from the list. I will quite readily tell you that when there is a lot of content floating around that does not pertain to the BrailleNote family of products, the number of these email notifications drastically increases. Therefore, please keep your email limited to BrailleNote issues, suggestions and yes, even constructive criticism so PDI can best serve you. Remember that PDI staff are delayed in their duties if they have to read email that is not relevant and this over time, will impact on BrailleNote development. I see few people complaining about the "I agree" posts and the fact that no one can seem to change a subject heading when the topic changes. What are we, the buyers of BNs and supporters of PDI supposed to do? Cut off any text that does not specifically deal with ONLY the Braillenote? Perhaps we shouldn't sign our messages, or quote previous ones as well. The original post was completely appropriate, and the original response given was unkind and harsh. Why should this person come back to the list or buy anything else from PDI? Its extremely common for lists to have specific topics that are permitted, and other stuff is off limits. So please stop trying to tell the list owner how to run their topic-specific list.
