When I calibrate the battery, and my BN returns an inaccuracy count of 1 instead of 8 or 10, whatever it is, the steps I take are to use it normally until I start getting battery is low message,. Since that comes up so often and drives me crazy, when I have had enough, or, if I can handle it by checking the status periodically I am at about 4% I move into the support mode menu and send it to the I am talking message, which I then leave running until it quits and I leave the room and drive my husband crazy--makes him actually go out and do yard work--grin.
When it stops talking or the display goes blank, I plug it in, wait for it to display and say test completed and voiloa, it starts charging. Some may say you have to start running it down with the test from 100%. I never have and never will, and lest you think I had bad luck with the battery--my older unit arrived on 1/24/01 and had its original battery when I sent it in for upgrade 11/11/03 and its power appeared to remain about the same, I was still getting about the same usage on it as I did at the beginning. Also, I have no idea exactly how long it takes before the battery is discharged, but as the BN has a battery life of over 20 hours, I imagine it takes quite a while. It doesn't tell you the percentage of discharge, as you pointed out, and I have found no mention in the User Guide as to how long battery drainage should take. However, as I said earlier, I imagine it takes over 20 hours. What I do to re-calibrate my gauge is, when I find out my gauge is inaccurate, I let my BN battery go so flat that the unit shuts itself off, and then I charge it until 100 percent, which brings my gauge back to accurate.
