I think we may be confusing multi-tasking and multi-threading. Multi-threading is what the BN does. If you are in the wordprocessor and you go to the keylist menu, the system saves your working document, remembers where you were, and brings up the keylist menu. When you are finished, the system saves your work from keylist, reloads your document, and places you where you were before.
In multi-tasking--which is what happens when you hitalt-tab on a desktop, your wordprocessor program is still there with your document in it, it's just no longer in focus. The focus is changed to the next program that is running. Actually, except for windows/xp, microsoft really hasn't achieved multi-tasking yet, but that's another story for another time.
