A couple of things regarding using the cell phone as a modem, although I am
using it with the PK and Bluetooth.

First, although it is true that some cell phone providers might not require
a username and password, best I can tell, Cingular Wireless here in the US
does. And,
second, regarding that modem initialization string, well, I just never could
get it to work with the PK. Now, I could get it to work with my other note
taker; however, with the PK, even though the PK already allows an entry for
it, I just couldn't get it to work.

However, I was able to connect the PK and my Nokia 6620
using the GPRS. And, the way I managed to do it without entering that
string, was to go in and tell the phone to use the GPRS access point. And,
actually, every time I want to connect this way, before I can do so, I got
to go into the phone and tell it again which GPRS access point to use.

Hope that made at least some sense.

Emma:

You can use the 3650 as a modem. I use the Nokia 6600 which is kind of like
the big brother to the 3650. Since you have (At least I think you said you
have), GPRS through your cell company, you're half way there. Yes, you want
to use "Hayes compatible on infra-red" for your port choice.

For most cell phone providers, at least here in the U.S., an initialization
string is required to access GPRS. In order to insert this string, you need
a different template for your directory of services entry which adds an
extra field for the initialization string. Hopefully Dean or Jonathan is
watching the list today and can tell you where to get this directory of
services template and how to install it. I spend the last few minutes
looking for that particular email and it is not on my system.

Now, in the actual directory of services entry itself, the user name and
User password can be anything as they seem to be essentially ignored by the
system. You, of course, will need all your correct email names and
passwords as well as your ISP's server information to fill out the rest of
the entry.
