Hi Lisa, The flash card reader is a little device with a slot in the front where you insert the compact flash card. Typically it attaches to the PC via its USB cable. I have a reader attached to my desktop machine at home, and I have another at work. When the card is inserted in the reader, the PC sees the card as a removable drive which can be accessed through My Computer or Windows Explorer, and you simply do copy and paste operations or cut and paste to copy or move files from the PC to the flash card and vice versa. When you're finished with the file transfers, simply re-insert the flash card back into the Braille Note. Compared to messing around with ActiveSync for file transfers, it's a lot easier and more reliable. I couldn't do without the reader. As for the kind of reader, make sure it accomodates a standard compact flash card rather than a memory stick or smart card. I use Sandisk readers on both machines; the one that I got for my work machine the other day cost me about twenty bucks.
The PCMCIA adapter fits a compact flash card, then the adapter is inserted into the right slot on the Braille Note or Voice Note. I use one of those, too, as I already have another compact flash card in the back slot, used to hold the maps for my GPS and to store backups of my other flash card and stuff that I store on the flash disk.
