Lindsay,
the Pcmcia slot on the side of the BN is used for connecting peripherals 
like disk drives, and hardcards and microdrives and modems. Otherwise 
they're both data slots. You can add superdisk drives and the things I 
just mentioned. Some pcmcia slots allow you to install two cards in the 
same slot, but the one on the Braillenote only allows for one extra card.
