Well, I have an odd issue, my husband installed our network a couple of years ago, cannot find any disk that came with it, cannot find the manual. I can sometimes make a connection, but mostly not by scanning for a network. It is a D-link router if that helps anyone.
Obviously I cannot find any of the security settings or do anything much at this point. My one option seems to be to replace the router so I can get to this information--seems a bit drastic but should work. Any other suggestions? What you need to do is to use your pc to go into your router settings and see just what wireless security is turned on. If you have access to your router manual, it should tell you the address you need to type into internet explorer to access the router settings. Go to wireless and click on that. Next, go to wireless security and click on that. If you happen to have wep turned on, which is a good possibility, you will need to enter the same key into your pk as you used on the router. The two keys must match exactly. To do this on the pk, go into your configuration which got created when you did the network scan. You should see something like wep = no. You need to change this to yes. Once you do that, you will be presented with an edit box where you enter the wep key. As I stated earlier, you need to enter the exact key, which should consist of numbers 0 thru 9 and possibly letters which must be between a and f. If you still have problems, you might want to turn wep off from the router just to test to be sure you can get connected, and don't turn wep on in your pk settings. You didn't say what kind of router you are using, so my comments are pretty general, but I hope it's enough to get you headed in the right direction. It's possible you might have other wireless security turned on in your router such as mac filtering, and how to deal with that may vary depending on which router you have. Hopefully though, you only have wep activated so it will be more simple to get going. I did a scan for connection in my home and it found it and I hit enter for it to connect and it does not connect or my pc does not see the pk when I go to my network and check for the pk. I know there is security on my home wifi and I do not know where to put this password in the pk to get through to connect when I configured the connection. Can someone please help me? thanks ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.pulsedata.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.pulsedata.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote
