Hello Barb,

I'm sorry i haven't addressed this message until now. It took me a while to
try and understand what you are saying.

Barb, what is your default file type? For bnbt users, by default it is a
keyword braille file. For qt users, i believe it is a keyword text file. Yet
your message makes it seem as if your default file type, or the type you
always create on your own, is a text file, with the extension of .txt.

If you work within a file with other than a kwb or kwt extension, you should
always be asked whether you wish to save it as a kwb or kwt file on exiting
unless you press s to surpress that particular prompt. However, if you
create that file on your own, you will not be prompted with this message.
so, what it seems to me is happening is you are purposely "or unknowingly"
creating file types with foreign extentions, and then you cannot find them
within keyword. that is because it is necessary to press space with x (read
with x) in order to view all, including files with other than a kwb or kwt
extension. you should not have to exit to the file manager, and copy the
file into a different folder to get to it. not only is that unnecessary, i
fear that you may have a few duplicate files on your system. Please tell me
if this has made some sense. I am really finding it hard here to put into
words what i'm trying to express. So let me know and if it doesn't, or you
can't follow me, i'll try to form it in another way. HTh, Laura

Subject: [Braillenote] bn formatting and apparent lost files

formatting commands such as margins and double spacing in the layout menu do
not seem to "stick" unless the file is a keysoft file. there may be easier
ways to get a file into keysoft, but i have found that if you exit the file
and it doesn't ask you if you want to save the file into keysoft, you can go
into file manager and copy the file you want to change to another folder, go
into it from that folder make the desired layout changes, and then exit at
which point it usually asks if you want to save to keysoft at which point
you say yes and name the file the desired name.

as per not finding files you thought you had loaded, go into the file
manager and under the directory option, look for the files, if they are
there, I have been successful accessing them by again, copying to another
directory then when i go into that directory, the file i copied to it will
be the file that the unit asks you if you want to go to. you can open it at
that point. usually if you edit it, it will ask you if you want to save it
to keysoft when you exit. answering yes, will give you easy access to it
when you want to open it again.

like i said, there may be easier ways that i don't know around these
problems, but the ways i have discussed here r how i have worked with them
as i know the frustration of setting format settings then not having them
acknowledged or knowing that i have loaded files into my bn and then i
couldn't find them.

good luck.
