Oh, crap, get real. I never said I wanted to get rid of page numbers. I only
stated that I didn't like to hear them if I'm reading with continuous
speech. It's just one of those things I would cut off like punctuation if I
didn't need it. It's not something I would write to Humanware about and ask
them to take off. I only wrote my message to state that I understood what
Sherry meant.

How petty can one become! If sighted people starts to complain about
page numbers reflected on each page, people will just laugh at them.
Speech takes less than half a second to say the number and with Braille
one can even pass it over in less time. Besides, in non-fiction
material it may be very necessary to have page numbers displayed and it
would be a much more valid complaint if they're not there.

Also, if one listens to a book which was converted to a txt file with a
screen reader on the pc, page numbers are also usually included, as it
then forms part of the text. If one has the time and really feels that
strong about it, you can edit it out, using the find and replace all
command, running the risk of losing other numbers written in the same
fassion as well. You'll have to go through the process nine times,
searching for all the digits and replacing them with nothing, or
something like a space, which will not be spoken.

I don't like hearing them as I'm continuously reading by speech either.

Yes. and they aren't an annoyance when being read in braille. but they
are
an annoyance when reading with the speech turned on. Especially if you
are
reading a nonfiction book that might have a lot of numbers in it as I
was
this weekend. I got lost several times in whether or not this was a
print
page, a braille page or a number of something in the book. and when I
read
hard copy braille, I don't look at the page number when I read. it's
just a
personal thing, I guess. It has always bothered me to have to hear page
numbers read, when I'm trying to read for pleasure and lose myself in a
story. It breaks up my concentration.

I can't understand why page numbers are such an annoyance. Every book,
whether it's braille or print, has page numbers in it.

When I read LOTR using speech, I first edited the print page numbers so
they

would sound right. But I would never take page numbers out of a book.

The reason why I don't put page numbers in my Bibles is because I often
redo

the files when I find an error.
