The easiest way to make sourdough starter is to get some from another
person who has some starter. I am going to need to feed my starters
tomorrow. I can feed them a little extra and dry some. I may have to
refresh them a couple of times as I have neglected them a bit.
Generally, those who have established starters are willing to send a
start to people who will supply a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

You can also start a starter by mixing flour and water. There is a
tutorial at http://www.thefreshloaf.com/node/233.
