A very comprehensive and excellent review of these problems. Let me add my bit: My Brewtus II had the OPV with the nylon adjustment screw, which I adjusted. After that I had all sorts of problems, and decided to replace the OPV. I sent to WLL but they sent me the same old model of the OPV, with the nylon adjustment screw. I obtained from Bella Barista in the UK a completely different OPV with the fittings to install this in the Brewtus. Chris Coffee also sells this valve but without the fittings.
I installed this OPV and found that my machine made less noise. The Vibe pump now just hums, whereas before, even before I messed with the nylon adjustment screw, the vibe pump was pretty noisy. Of course in order to install the new valve I had to take the vibe pump out, so maybe it makes less noise because in reinstalling it I did something right. The reduced noise might not have anything to do with the new OPV.
