Hi Tim,
When backflushing, do you mean the high pressure stream from the bottom of
the vertical pipe, i.e. that vents into the drip tray?  If that's slow, and
you're seeing pressure on the PF (meaning that that same tube isn't draining
quickly/completely), I would guess that the vertical tube has become clogged
somehow.  Pressure on the PF is not normal and can be dangerous when it
sprays hot coffee grind and water on you.

I imagine Ira will chime in on how to open that part up and see what's
gotten in there, but I would stop using the machine in the meantime.  At
least be very careful and crack the PF open slowly to let off pressure
slowly.
